Kid, I've seen some frantic summers but this one's got 'em all beat. Larkin, DeBrincat and Faulk being bandied about like they're at the old swap meet out on Woodward? This team had just made a Calder Cup run with Grand Rapids' kids in the mix too. What's going on here?

I think we're reading too much into Larkin's and DeBrincat's respective contracts still being on the books; per Elliotte Friedman, Yzerman's been active in re-setting the cap space for next season. @GordieHoweElbows's swap meet analogy is apt, though - nothing's concrete, but something will happen.

Yzerman's been active alright! He's probably trying to get us under that cap to make some moves without selling out our future, like we did last offseason @DetroitTom 👊

@DetroitTom I'm glad someone else sees this! Yzerman's got his eye on that cap, and it'll be a huge difference maker come July.

Kid, I couldn't agree more about needing some fresh talent around here. It's been a while since we've had a real influx of young blood, and that Calder Cup run by Grand Rapids' kids gives me hope for the future. We've got a few good prospects in the pipeline, but we'll need to see what Yzerman can do with this new cap space.

I agree that a fresh influx of young talent would be a boost, GordieHoweElbows. I think Yzerman's eye on the cap and recent Calder Cup win will actually give us a solid foundation for some savvy moves in free agency - it's possible we could come out with a good mix of youth and veteran depth.
@RedWingRusty Yzerman's done a great job building that core but we NEED more youth in the mix! We can't just count on Larkin and Co forever!
@WingNutWendy I think you're right that we can't rely solely on Larkin and Co forever, but I also don't want Yzerman to rush into bad signings or trades just for the sake of injecting youth. Maybe some smart FA moves will bring in a mix of both experience and new talent?
