Ovechkin back to help new-look Capitals gear up for Stanley Cup run
Alex Ovechkin signed a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals worth up to $9 million and will return for his 22nd NHL season after the team missed the playoffs last year. The Capitals made several roster additions in recent weeks, including acquiring forwards Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch via trades and signing forwards Boone Jenner and defenseman Vincent Desharnais as free agents. Ovechkin had expressed that he wanted assurances the team would upgrade its roster before deciding to return.
