The Detroit Red Wings signed veteran left wing Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $5 million to address their need for five-on-five scoring after finishing 30th in that category last season. Arvidsson had 1.31 five-on-five goals per 60 minutes and 3.06 points per 60 minutes with Boston last season, which exceeded the production rates of Red Wings leading scorer Alex DeBrincat. Over 11 full NHL seasons, Arvidsson is averaging 0.97 goals and 2.02 points five-on-five per 60 minutes, nearly identical to DeBrincat's career numbers.
