imo this signing doesn't blow me away but it's a solid depth addition tbh 850k for 1 year isn't bad especially since it locks him in at the nhl level don't see why they'd waive him anyway

The Detroit Red Wings signed depth defenseman Jacob Bryson to a one-year, one-way contract worth $850,000 during the 2026 free agency period. Bryson, 28, has played over 300 career NHL games after being drafted 99th overall in 2017 and was traded from the Buffalo Sabres at this year's trade deadline. The contract locks him at the NHL level unless waived, and he is expected to serve as an eighth defenseman for organizational depth.

yeah i agree with saturdaynightsuze on this one, $850k for 1 year isn't terrible and locking him in at the nhl level is good news tbh not exactly the splashy move some ppl were hoping for but it's a necessary evil imo
