Daniil Tarasov signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Detroit Red Wings on July 1 to serve as a potential backup to John Gibson, replacing Cam Talbot who departed after two seasons. Tarasov, 27, appeared in 33 games last season for the Florida Panthers with a 3.05 goals-against average and .895 save percentage, and made 24 saves in a Panthers victory over the Wings on April 15. The Wings also signed forward Viktor Arvidsson on the same day.
