McKenna can be 'foundation' for Maple Leafs, Devellano says
Jim Devellano, senior vice president of the Detroit Red Wings, stated in an email that Gavin McKenna, selected No. 1 overall by Toronto in the 2026 NHL Draft, will be as good as Denis Potvin was for the Islanders and can serve as a foundation for the Maple Leafs similar to how Potvin was for the Islanders dynasty. Devellano, who scouted for the expansion Islanders starting in 1972 and was instrumental in directing general manager Bill Torrey to select Potvin with the No. 1 pick in the 1973 NHL Draft, also discovered future Islanders legends Bryan Trottier, Mike Bossy, and Clark Gillies.
