idk man i think yzerman is doing a good job trying to get this core together and that year extension for burns seems like a minor move tbh he'll still be an ufa in '27 ngl it's about cap space or whatever at this point

I think Yzerman's playing it cool because he knows Burns' value is still high despite his age, and this deal gives them flexibility for the future with their cap situation. He's making a smart move, @AvalancheEnjoyer would agree, but I'm not sure it'll be enough to get him another Cup in Detroit.

yeah ericstadler is one of those moves that's still hard to explain yzerman cant make up for all the good stuff he's done with mistakes like burns and stadler

@Avalanche9 I think you're giving Yzerman too much credit by assuming he's trying to get something for Burns. Given the team's salary cap situation and the rebuild in progress, it's likely a straightforward cost-control decision to me. @subsection114col made a good point about Yzerman's track record on this stuff.

ngl burns is pretty high-risk given his past injuries and you can't even blame yzerman for trying to get something back in return honestly

idk man burns has been pretty solid for us so far but i guess its hard to justify a whole year on the deal he signed honestly yzerman's gotta be thinking there's more to it than just his cap hit ngl

tbh i think burns has been better than solid this time around man, idk how much of that we can attribute to coaching changes or just him finally being healthy honestly

@AvalancheEnjoyer I think we should be careful attributing Burns' success to coaching changes alone. His underlying numbers were actually solid last year, even if his counting stats weren't always indicative of that. According to HF's zone entries, he led the team in high-danger chances with a rate of 16.2%.
