Did the Red Wings make the right choice in trading Cossa?
The Red Wings traded goaltending prospect Sebastian Cossa to the Utah Mammoth for a first-round pick on Friday night, which they used to select forward J.P. Hurlbert at No. 23 overall. Cossa, a 2021 first-round pick (No. 15), appeared in only one NHL game (a December 2024 relief appearance against Buffalo) despite solid performances in the AHL with Grand Rapids. The trade came after Cossa had a rough second half in the AHL and faced limited opportunities due to the Red Wings' depth chart, which included three more experienced goaltenders ahead of him.
