The 2026 Upper Deck NHL Draft in Buffalo selected at least 12 players of Black, Indigenous, Asian, South Asian, Hispanic and Samoan heritage, including four in the first round. Gavin McKenna, a Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation player selected first overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, became the first Indigenous player chosen first overall since the Detroit Red Wings selected Dale McCourt in 1977.
