The San Jose Sharks selected 7-foot-1, 272-pound defenseman Alexander Karmanov with the 201st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2026 NHL Draft, making him the tallest player ever drafted into the NHL and the first player ever drafted from Moldova. Karmanov is an 18-year-old from Chisinau, Moldova. The previous record for tallest player to win a Stanley Cup was held by Zdeno Chara at 6-foot-9, and the tallest active player is New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe, also at 6-foot-9.
