Schaefer family, Islanders honor late mom at cancer center

The New York Islanders honored Jennifer Schaefer, who died from breast cancer in February 2024, with the opening of a child support room at the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center. The facility was made possible by a $150,000 donation from the Islanders Children's Foundation and features hockey-themed amenities including air hockey, bubble hockey, and gaming consoles. The room was dedicated to providing children space while their parents undergo cancer treatment.
