The Detroit Red Wings traded goalie Sebastian Cossa to the Utah Mammoth for the No. 23 first-round pick and used that selection to choose University of Michigan-bound left wing J.P. Hurlbert. Cossa, a 2021 first-round draft pick who played 45 minutes for Detroit, had spent four seasons in the minor leagues but fell behind Czech goalie Michal Postava on the depth chart after Postava posted a 1.71 GAA and .937 save percentage this season compared to Cossa's previous performances.
