Penn State forward Gavin McKenna was selected No. 1 overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 26 at the 2026 NHL Draft in Buffalo, with the announcement made by Justin Bieber. McKenna, an 18-year-old left wing, recorded 51 points in 35 games during his freshman season and received a congratulatory video message from Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews, with whom he had previously corresponded following the NHL Combine.
