Red Wings’ first-round pick ‘knows how to score goals’

The Detroit Red Wings selected left wing J.P. Hurlbert with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, acquiring the selection from Utah in exchange for goaltending prospect Sebastian Cossa. Hurlbert, a 6-0, 190-pound prospect from Allen, Texas, is coming off a season with the Kamloops WHL team where he recorded 45 goals and 97 points in 68 games and will play for the University of Michigan next season.
