The Seattle Kraken selected defenseman Chase Reid with the seventh overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, two years after he was released from his USHL team and playing Tier II junior hockey in Bismarck, North Dakota. Reid, an 18-year-old who was drafted seventh round by the Ontario Hockey League the prior spring, joined the Soo Greyhounds after NCAA rule changes allowed him to maintain college eligibility while playing major junior hockey. Reid scored 18 goals and 30 assists in 45 games for the Greyhounds last season, the highest points per game total by a defenseman in the OHL.
