The Detroit Red Wings selected forward J.P. Hurlbert 23rd overall in the 2026 NHL Draft after acquiring the pick from Utah in exchange for goaltender Sebastian Cossa. Hurlbert, a 6-foot, 190-pound forward from Allen, Texas, led the Kamloops Blazers with 42 goals and 97 points in 2025-26 and was named WHL Rookie of the Year. He is committed to the University of Michigan for the 2026-27 season.
