Red Wings get back into 1st round of NHL Draft, trade Sebastian Cossa
The Detroit Red Wings traded Sebastian Cossa, a goaltender selected 15th overall in 2021, to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for the 23rd overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft on June 26. The Wings used that selection to choose JP Hurlbert, a 6-foot, 190-pound forward who recorded 42 goals and 55 assists in 68 games for Kamloops of the Western Hockey League in 2025-26 and is headed to the University of Michigan. Cossa appeared in only one NHL game during his five years with Detroit and lost his starting job to Michal Postava with the Grand Rapids Griffins late in the season.
