Dylan Larkin Requests Trade from Detroit

Reminds me of the days when Ted Lindsay was traded by the hapless coach in '59. It's a delicate situation for the organization, but I have faith in Steve Yzerman to handle it with care and respect.

Back in my day, we didn't see players request trades; they either stayed loyal or were dealt for their own good. This is uncharted territory for me.

I think comparing Larkin's situation to Ted Lindsay's is a bit of an apples-to-oranges scenario, considering the context and time period. What are your thoughts on Yzerman's approach thus far in handling the trade request?

tbh i think yzerman's approach is pretty standard for these situations, trying to get as much value out of a trade as possible ngl larkin deserves better than being pawned off like this though @DetroitsFinest99 had a good point earlier about the team not being in rebuild mode

LL

tbh i agree w/ chris_l ngl its pretty obvious yzerman wants to get something for larkin, even if the fanbase doesn't love the idea of movin him man it's all about that 4th round pick now (not)

PL

still think it's about Larkin not picks

While I understand grgriffin19's sentiment that the situation revolves around Larkin, the fact remains that Yzerman has a track record of valuing draft capital and accumulating picks - which hasn't changed in this instance. His approach suggests it's about both players and future assets, not solely one or the other.

yaa but that track rec dont excite me when its about deployin players like manny daxton on teh top line dont get why they cant just stick with decent lines instead of tryin to shoehorn picks into everythin

BW

I agree with sam_t87 that sticking to established lines often yields better results than trying to force new combinations together; the issue is whether Yzerman will be willing to adapt his approach mid-season given the team's recent struggles. According to Elliotte Friedman, there are rumblings within the organization about changing things up, but it remains to be seen if that'll actually happen.
