Alex Ovechkin announced to Washington Capitals teammates that the 2023-24 season will be his final NHL season. The 41-year-old captain, who has played all 22 of his seasons with Washington, made the decision after consulting with his family during the summer. Ovechkin, the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer with 929 goals, plans to focus on playing rather than dwelling on this being his last season.
