The Detroit Red Wings began one hundred years ago as an expansion team called the Detroit Cougars. The Cougars were based in Victoria, British Columbia, before moving to Detroit and playing their first games in Windsor, Canada. The team changed its name from the Cougars to the Red Wings in 1932.
